People commonly think that these two is the same with just different spellings.  But let us make thing clear today.  It is better to know our role before anything else so we can fulfill our duties well.

If you are chosen to be a maid of honor it is because you are single in a way that you are not yet married.  You are the head of the bridesmaids so you need to make sure that they already have their dresses and pieces of jewelry, you can even help them shop.  Host a bridal shower for the bride with the help of your bridesmaids and most importantly be a helping hand to the bride.  Oh, we almost forgot, maid of honor is always rooting to get the bouquet, too!

On the other hand, if you are chosen to be a matron of honor it is because you are married and your marriage is an inspiration, meaning a successful one.  You will stand as the role model of the bride and you should only be married once.  Your role is the same as the maid of honor.  For the brides to be you can choose your sister as your maid of honor and your best friend (if she’s already married) as matron of honor because she can help you with the wedding planning and can give you useful advice.
